Smart billing is a key focus area for our Consumer Empowerment and Protection project. In 2015 we consulted on a number of measures to help achieve the right consumer outcomes for smart billing. We are focusing primarily on the related objectives of minimising backbills and minimising estimated bills.
This letter sets out our decision to improve the transparency of suppliers’ backbilling policies, and monitor the protections they offer to consumers. We also plan to monitor suppliers’ wider performance in terms of delivering the benefits of smart meters.
