What is the redevelopment of the Renewables and CHP Register?

Ofgem is redeveloping the Renewables and CHP Register, currently used by Ofgem to administer the Renewables Obligation (RO), Feed-in Tariff (specifically ROOFIT) and Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) schemes. Our aim is to provide a new Register that is easier for you to use, provides a better user experience and ensure it is fit for purpose going forward. The new system will be called the Renewable Electricity Register (RER).

Further delay to launch of Renewable Electricity Register (RER)

The Renewable Electricity Register (RER) is now planned to launch summer 2021, a further delay from the previous launch date of Q4 2020/2021.

There have been delays to a number of workstreams on the project, including challenges with finalising a secure and robust cloud platform, which have led to further knock on delays for deliverables leading up to the launch of the RER. The RER Project team aim to ensure the delivery of a robust and reliable service, this additional time will ensure that the RER project team is able to deliver a service that meets the high expectations and the levels of quality its users expect.

Can you provide an update on activities of the RER?

The project is currently working through the Beta phase of development, development of functionality will continue to summer 2021 when the service is expected to launch. The double data entry activity, in which external users use the RER alongside the R&CHP by repeating all tasks on the new service, will now commence in April 2021. This activity will be followed by technical tests of the RER as well as a formal assessment by Government Digital Services (GDS) prior to the launch of the new service.

We will ensure to update you on further timelines as the project progresses. Thank you for your continued support and engagement throughout this project.
