What is the redevelopment of the Renewables and CHP Register?

Ofgem is redeveloping the Renewables and CHP Register, currently used to administer the Renewables Obligation (RO), Feed-in Tariff (ROOFIT) and Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) schemes. Our aim is to provide a new Register that is easier for you to use, provides a better user experience and ensure it is fit for purpose going forward. The new system will be called the Renewable Electricity Register (RER).

Delay to launch of Renewable Electricity Register (RER)

The Renewable Electricity Register (RER) is now planned to launch towards the end of Q4 2020/2021, a 3-month delay from the original launch date of the end of Q3 2020/2021.

Prolonged Covid-19 home working restrictions have caused a delay to a number of workstreams on the project which have led to further knock on delays for deliverables leading up to the launch of the RER. The RER Project team aim to ensure the delivery of a robust and reliable service, this additional time will ensure that the RER project team is able to carry out activities such as extensive internal and external user testing. These activities are vital in ensuring the RER meets the high expectations and the levels of quality its users expect as well as ensuring user feedback can be incorporated into the new service prior to launch.

Can you provide an update on activities of the RER?

The project is currently working through the Beta phase of development. Functionality that is currently in development is listed below and will continue to the end of Q4 2020/21 when the service is expected to launch. The double data entry activity, in which external users use the RER alongside the R&CHP by repeating all tasks on the new service, will now commence at the beginning of December 2020. This activity will be followed by technical tests of the RER as well as a formal assessment by Government Digital Services (GDS).
