What is the Renewables and CHP Register?

The Renewables and CHP Register was developed in 2006 to support Ofgem in their administration and delivery of government schemes including the Renewables Obligation (RO), Feed-In Tariff (FIT), and Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO), and previously the Climate Change Levy exemption for renewables (CCL) and Non-Fossil Fuel Obligation (NFFO) schemes.

How is the Renewables and CHP Register changing?

Here in Ofgem we continually seek to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our approach and our services, which is why we are redeveloping the Renewables and CHP Register. The intent is to create a bespoke replacement Register which will replace the existing Renewables and CHP Register, called the RER (Renewable Electricity Register).

Why is the Renewables and CHP Register being redeveloped?

The new Register will bring a range of benefits to external users including providing a service with a better user experience, additional functionality to complete tasks and the provision of a service that is fit for purpose going forward. Ofgem has a mandate to invest in improvements which will reduce the lifetime cost of its regulatory activities, and replacing the Renewables and CHP Register has been identified as an opportunity to fulfil this obligation.

When will it be launched?

Our agile development team have recently completed the discovery phase and have now entered the alpha phase of the project. We are in the early stages of development, aiming to launch the new Register towards the end of Q4 2020/2021. We will provide further updates on this page as the project progresses to ensure you are kept up to date and informed throughout. You can find out more about what’s involved during each phase at: https://www.gov.uk/service-manual/agile-delivery

Can I get involved?

Yes! We value your input and strive to deliver a service that works for you. We would like to hear your opinion on the Renewables and CHP Register, any problems or frustrations you may have or functionality you would like to see in the new Register. To offer your feedback please contact us at: renewableelectricityrewrite@ofgem.gov.uk.

Throughout the alpha phase in November 2019, and from 2020 onwards when the project enters the beta phase, we require users to test elements of the new Register and provide your feedback. This will help us to ensure the finished product meets your needs & expectations, and will help as we make continuous improvements to the new Register over time.  If you would like to be involved in testing during the alpha phase or beta phase please contact us at: renewableelectricityrewrite@ofgem.gov.uk
