Open letter on potential reforms to the change of supplier (COS) meter read process for smart gas meters

When a customer changes supplier, it is necessary to obtain a meter read. This read is used by the old supplier to send a final bill to their customer, and by the new supplier to open a customer account. We believe that changes could be made to the process by which this meter read is obtained and processed for smart gas meters.
In this letter we ask that the UNC Panel and SPAA Executive Committee set up a joint work group to consider any relevant changes to the change of supplier meter read process to improve its efficiency in the context of smart meters and align outcomes for consumers when switching gas and/or electricity.
