Ofgem has written to CEOs of the electricity and gas transmission and gas distribution companies (on 4th June 2019) asking them to commit to submitting a robust and quality assured business plan, and to respond by letter outlining what actions they will take to ensure that this commitment is met. Specifically, we requested companies to confirm:

  • that their Business Plan will be accurate, financeable, robust and represents good value for money for consumers;
  • the accuracy and quality assurance processes in place to ensure your company provides high-quality information to enable us to make decisions which are in the interests of existing and future consumers;
  • how companies will ensure Board-level oversight and acceptance of the Plan, and that companies understand that company boards are responsible for the plans submitted.

We sent letters to the following networks and their representatives:

Transmission   Gas Distribution
Nicola Shaw Executive Director, National Grid (GT&ET) Mark Horsley CEO, Northern Gas Networks
Frank Mitchell CEO, Scottish Power Energy Networks Steve Hurrell Interim CEO, Cadent
Alistair Phillips-Davies Chief Executive, Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission John Morea CEO, Scottish Gas Networks
    Graham Edwrads CEO, Wales and West Utilities

We have since sought companies’ permission to publish their responses as we believe it is important to communicate to consumers the commitments companies have made in their letters.

Below are letters from companies which have since given permission to publication of their correspondence.
