Registering as a market participant under REMIT

All REMIT market participants are required to register with the national regulatory authority (NRA) in the European member state where they are established or resident or, if they are not established or resident in the European Union, in a member state where they are active.

Ofgem is the designated NRA for Great Britain.

Register before entering into transactions

Market participants are required to register before entering into reportable transactions. Transaction reporting is to the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER).

Transaction reporting began on 7 October 2015 for transactions made on organised market places.

Additional reporting relating to transactions made outside of organised market places began on 7 April 2016.

How to register

Market participants in Britain should register with Ofgem.

The system for registration in GB is called the Centralised European Registry for Energy Market Participants (CEREMP). CEREMP is a web-based platform developed by ACER and NRAs for use by market participants to fulfil their REMIT registration obligations.

Access CEREMP to register as a market participant.

What information will I need?

The Agency for the Co-operation of Energy Regulators (ACER) in Europe has already determined the information you’ll need to provide in the online registration. You can view this through the link below:

Registration guidance and support

To support GB participants during the registration process, we have provided a REMIT Registration User Guide. This provides clear definitions on what registration information you’ll need in GB and a step by step breakdown on how to register. We’ve also produced a REMIT registration frequently asked questions document.

You can find the User Manual and the FAQ document on our website. These documents are designed to assist with a smooth registration process, please read them carefully.

ACER has also published a number of useful guidance documents on its ACER REMIT portal.

If you would like to speak to a member of the team about REMIT registration, please contact us at or on 0300 003 1514. We try to provide support from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday but cannot guarantee an immediate response.

On 01 July 2015, the Electricity and Gas (Market Integrity and Transparency) (Enforcement etc.) (Amendment) Regulations 2015 came into force. Among other things, these regulations provide us with the power to take action against those who don't comply with their REMIT registration requirements. More information on how we will enforce can be found in our REMIT penalties statement and procedural guidelines.
