We have awarded funding for six UK Power Networks Second Tier projects. You can find further information on each project and related documents under the publications and updates feed below.
Kent Area System Management - 2014
KASM would trialling new software for managing variable power flows on a 132kV network with a high density of intermittent generation feeding onto it.
Flexible Urban Network – Low Voltage - 2013
A project trialling interconnection of low voltage networks, to share network capacity, using three connection methods.
Vulnerable Customers and Energy Efficiency - 2013
A project aiming to trial energy efficiency and demand-side response (DSR) with fuel poor and vulnerable customers.
Smarter Network Storage - 2012
This project will install a 6 MW/10 MWh battery to manage network constraints. The project aims to investigate the financial benefits of deferring or avoiding network reinforcement and selling flexibility services.
Flexible Plug & Play - 2011
A project trialling ways to improve the control of the extra high voltage network to connect increased volumes of wind generation. The project will trial an open communications platform and develop an investment model for connecting renewable generation to the distribution system.
Low Carbon London - 2010
A project exploring technical and commercial innovations to facilitate the integration of low carbon technologies into urban and suburban networks. It leverages a number of London's low carbon initiatives. It trials new technologies, active network management and demand response in partnership with Logica and Imperial College (amongst others).
