Implementation of Real-Time Thermal Ratings (SPT1001)
This project will implement a dynamic real-time thermal rating system for overhead lines that gives control room operators greater visibility of the actual thermal operating status of their network.
Ashton Hayes Smart Village (SPT1002)
This project will seek to use the opportunity provided by the Going Carbon Neutral project at Ashton Hayes to better understand how DNOs can facilitate the transition to a low carbon economy. This will include monitoring, providing customers with information on renewable generation in the village and promoting demand-side response.
Clyde Gateway (SPT1003)
This Project will demonstrate the integration of a number of smart grid components within an established infrastructure it will facilitate the development of solutions in a number of areas. The application of the latest technologies on a relatively small network will:
- assist with the development of efficient and effective solutions;
- provide learning outcomes not only on the smart aspects of the grid infrastructure but on design standards, network voltages and utilisation of assets; and
- inform industry and the supply chain on smart grid challenges and solutions.
Hydro Generation and Active Network Management (ANM) (SPT1004)
This project will deploy an ANM scheme on the network to actively manage the output of an existing hydro generator in order for it to utilise the additional generation export capability that is present during periods of higher demand. Real-time voltage measurements will be used to co-ordinate the generator and other controllable devices.
Temperature Monitoring Windfarm Cable Circuits (SPT1005)
This project will use dynamic thermal ratings and active network management on circuits from three parallel wind farms with a view to accommodating further renewable generation without network reinforcement.
