Our annual Compliance and Enforcement Conference took place on Tuesday 25 September 2018 in De Vere Conference Centre, Canary Wharf. Each year a range of suppliers, network companies and consumer groups are invited to hear from our Compliance and Enforcement teams. This year, following feedback from last year’s conference, the focus was on greater interaction with Ofgem and sharing best practice – this included hearing from our Policy team who focus on principles-based regulation.
The conference was well attended and delegates heard a full day of presentations, held discussions and enjoyed networking opportunities.
Mary Starks, our Executive Director of Consumers & Markets, opened the conference to introduce the day with the theme of 'What Good Looks Like', which included presentations delivered by colleagues from across Ofgem’s Conduct & Enforcement Team, from Citizens Advice and from the Energy Ombudsman.
Presentations included: an annual update of lessons learned from teams in Ofgem; 'The Changing Approach to Compliance with Principles'; and 'Best Practice – What Does Good Look Like?' from Citizens Advice and the Energy Ombudsman. Delegates also learned more about our voluntary redress scheme (delivered by the Energy Savings Trust) and the successes achieved through the efforts of the first round of awardees.
Each presentation was followed by engaging table discussions, where delegates were invited to share concerns and questions with the room – encouraging an open, honest and clear line of communication between the regulator, suppliers, network companies and consumer groups.
We have received positive, encouraging feedback from delegates, with key highlights being the great opportunity given for networking with other delegates, the helpfulness of having an Ofgem facilitator at each Roundtable, and how engaging our Compliance and Enforcement presenters were.
