Help and support

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (now the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) commissioned a consortium led by NNFCC and including E4tech, to provide support to users of the Biomass and Biogas Carbon Calculator.

Any queries associated with the RO greenhouse gas criteria should be directed to the RO team by emailing: Renewable.Enquiry@Ofgem.gov.uk

Any queries regarding the ongoing obligations for the Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme should be directed to the Non-Domestic RHI team by emailing: rhi.enquiry@ofgem.gov.uk

Legal disclaimer

The UK Biomass and Biogas Carbon Calculator is developed for calculating carbon intensity and greenhouse gas (GHG) saving of solid biomass and biogas used for electricity and heat generation. The UK Biomass & Biogas Carbon Calculator incorporates the calculation methodology set out in the Renewable Energy Directive1a, taking account of the recommendations set out by the European Commission in their report on sustainability requirements for solid and gaseous biomass1b. The tool is designed to help generators under the Renewables Obligation scheme (RO), and participants of the Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive scheme, calculate their final GHG emission savings, so that they can be reported to Ofgem.

Ensuring that the calculation of GHG savings is undertaken correctly remains the responsibility of generators, as set out in the Renewable Obligation Order, and of participants as set out in the ND RHI Regulations.

The UK Biomass and Biogas Carbon Calculator was developed by E4tech, with support from the Environment Agency, the Department of Energy and Climate Change and the NNFCC.
