Non-Domestic RHI

All participants on the Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) are obliged to keep up-to-date records of fuel use if they are using biomass.

These fuel records will also form part of your evidence to show that the fuel you are using is sustainable. From 5 October 2015 all participants generating heat (or heat and power) from biomass or biogas and those producing biomethane for injection, have to comply with sustainability requirements. See Chapter 4, Volume 2 of the Guidance for details of how to comply.

If you are having issues recording  biomass fuel usage or keeping biomass records up-to-date, please let us know and we can work together to ensure accurate records of this very important information are correctly maintained. Fuel records enable us to verify that the fuel used is sustainable and not contaminated by fossil fuel, and that only 100% biomass is being used.

If you fail to keep accurate records, you will not be complying with the requirements of the Non-Domestic RHI and may lose payments.

We will carry out audits to ensure participants are compliant with the Non-Domestic RHI scheme. Accurate biomass fuel records must be available at all times as they are needed to pass the audit.

Full details on how to stay compliant are available in the Guidance Volume 2.

For further information see the Guide to keeping fuel records for biomass, which helps you understand what fuel records you need to keep.
