Publication date

Ofgem has today launched an investigation into sales practices by Economy Energy Trading Limited.

An investigation is being launched into Economy Energy’s marketing and telesales practices, following concerns about its approach to recruiting new customers.

The investigation will examine whether Economy Energy breached licence conditions which require suppliers to communicate transparently and accurately to customers when undertaking marketing and telesales activities.

Notes to editors

  1. For more information on potential licence conditions breached see Ofgem's investigation.
  2. The opening of this investigation does not imply that we have made any findings about non-compliance.
  3. The Citizens Advice service raised concerns with Ofgem in July 2016 relating to a high level of complaints against Economy Energy particularly around its marketing and sales practices.
  4. Economy Energy is a small to medium sized supplier that supplies electricity and gas to domestic customers mostly on pre-payment meters.
