Ofgem E-Serve, the administrator of the government’s environmental and social programmes, has signed a partnership agreement with the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT).

The Wales-based CAT is an education and visitor centre demonstrating practical solutions for sustainability and boasts a large range of installed renewable systems.

The Centre is also home to a graduate school and is involved in a number of projects, such as Zero Carbon Britain, which aim to demonstrate the UK can achieve zero carbon emissions with existing technology.

The partnership will enable Ofgem E-Serve to draw on expert knowledge from the CAT as well as access learning and development opportunities for its staff via courses and seminars.

In return Ofgem E-Serve will assist researchers at the CAT with data interpretation and share its expertise in the design and delivery of renewable incentive schemes.

The administrator also hopes to pose research questions for degree students’ dissertations with the aim of taking any useful findings and applying them to its administration of schemes.

Chris Poulton, Ofgem E-Serve’s Managing Director, said: “We’re very pleased to be collaborating with the Centre for Alternative Technology.

“By working more closely with key partners we can broaden our knowledge and share expertise across industry, government and the academic sectors.

“By doing so we can improve operational efficiency, scheme delivery and customer satisfaction.”

Adrian Ramsay, CEO of CAT, said: “We are pleased to be working with Ofgem E-Serve. This collaboration will enhance the learning experience of our students and support our work in demonstrating how we can achieve a zero carbon future.

"We look forward to sharing expertise with Ofgem staff, which I'm confident will be beneficial to both organisations."
