The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has today approved the appointment of Dr Nicola Hodson to Ofgem’s governing authority, the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (GEMA).

She is general manager of Marketing and Operations at Microsoft UK, and will take-up a non-executive role for the next five years to 28 February 2020.

Nicola has worked on transforming businesses throughout her career and brings previous experience in the energy and utilities sector. She has held executive director positions across IT and business processes alongside sales, marketing, partner and bid management at Siemens IT Solutions and Services.

Commenting on the appointment, GEMA Chairman, David Gray, said: “We are delighted to welcome Nicola to Ofgem. Her recruitment follows an open competition which saw a strong set of candidates. Nicola will bring a wealth of experience across a number of areas that are very relevant to the challenges we are addressing, and will contribute to a leadership that, with a new strategy and work programme, continues to look to make the most of its resources and powers to make a positive difference for energy consumers.”

The Authority, whose members are appointed by the Secretary of State at DECC, comprises non-executive and executive members and a non-executive chair.

Members play a pivotal role in setting the strategic direction of Ofgem and in ensuring that we fulfil our duty to protect consumers, facilitate competition and maintain the integrity of the energy market.
