Which scheme should the customer apply to – Domestic or Non-Domestic RHI?
An application can only be for one scheme. Only certain renewable heat technology types and sizes are eligible for the Non-Domestic scheme. Find out more about the eligibility requirements.
Eligible heating systems in the Non-Domestic RHI
Certain requirements must be met by the installer, the owner, the plant, and the heating system in order for an installation to be supported under the Non-Domestic RHI. Familiarise yourself thoroughly with the scheme requirements, and make sure you clarify any exceptions each time you’re involved in a project that is anticipating support under the NDRHI.
For installations of capacity 45kWth and under, your installation company must, at the time of installation and commissioning, be a Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) member or certified by an equivalent scheme. For more information, see Guidance Volume 1, Chapter 4.
You need to:
- know how to install heat metering correctly (or to engage someone who does)
- understand how metering works
- know what metering documents you have to complete and give to your customer as part of the installation process.
You also need to make sure your customers understand their ongoing obligations over the 20-year period of the scheme as they are responsible for this. Find out more information about metering.
