Publication date

The government’s Productivity Plan published on 10 July announced a programme of Cutting Red Tape reviews, which support government’s commitment to cut a further £10 billion of burdens on business.

The Cutting Red Tape review in the energy sector has been launched. It will take account of emerging conclusions from the Competition and Markets Authority’s ongoing investigation, but will not cover anything addressed in the investigation.

Have your say

We welcome the Cutting Red Tape review and will work with government to look for opportunities to feed your views into our ongoing work. We encourage you to contribute to the government’s Cutting Red Tape review. Please make your contributions through the review website by 13 September.

Our commitment to reduce burdens on businesses

Looking for ways to reduce burdens on business is a priority for us. Our current Simplification Plan includes commitments in key areas, such as code governance, our work with emerging and innovative business models, and ongoing consideration of how we can move to greater reliance on outcome-focused principles. These commitments are reflected in the way we work with our stakeholders. On 6 July we and DECC jointly hosted the Independent Energy Supplier Forum and on 7 July we held a workshop on the principles-based approach, attended by around 50 market participants, consumer bodies and trade representatives.

Our Simplification Plan also builds on the commitment in our Strategy to develop greater transparency on our costs and benefits, and on our Forward Work Programme pledge to streamline our approach to the Information Requests we send to industry.
