Suppliers have to keep a record of their operation against certain licence conditions and to report on their performance.
They must submit an annual report on their performance to Ofgem and to the Gas and Electricity Consumers Council (energywatch). Suppliers are also required to submit monitoring returns quarterly to Ofgem and to energywatch.
The reporting requirements are as follows:
- quarterly returns must be submitted to Ofgem and energywatch (via Ofgem) no more than 28 days after the end of each quarter (i.e. 28 January, 28 April, 28 July, and 28 September); and
- the annual return to Ofgem and energywatch (via Ofgem) must also be submitted by 28 January.
Detailed information on reporting requirements is available in the guidance notes on monitoring domestic suppliers’ performance.
