Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) is holding a competition to demonstrate commercial scale Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology in the UK. This technology may require changes to the NTS so that carbon dioxide can flow through pipelines to disused North Sea fields for safe storage.

Ofgem has a role in granting consent for the transfer of National Transmission System (NTS) assets and ensuring consumer interests are taken into account during this process.
