SQSS

The transmission licensees – both onshore and offshore – are required by their licences to comply with the National Electricity Transmission System Security and Quality of Supply Standards (NETS SQSS), which sets out criteria and methodologies for planning and operating the GB Transmission System.

NGET is required to have in force a Grid Code, which sets out all material technical aspects relating to connections to and the operation and use of the transmission system.  Relevant parties such as generators, distribution network operators and large demand users are required by their licenses and/or the contractual framework to comply with Grid Code.

Ofgem has powers to grant derogation from the licence obligation to comply with the NETS SQSS and Grid Code.  For more information, see our Derogations Guidance document.
