Transmission licensees are responsible for ensuring they comply with their statutory and licence obligations. Ofgem has powers, where appropriate, to undertake formal investigation into potential licence breaches. For more information, see the enforcement area of our website.
Ofgem also has powers to grant relief (or ‘derogation’) from the licence requirement to comply with the obligations in certain technical codes. For more information, see our Derogations guidance document.
In addition, Ofgem has powers to settle disputes in certain circumstance. For example parties can seek a determination from Ofgem in relation to terms offered by NGET for connection and/or use of the transmission system, or in relation to whether NGET has levied charges in accordance with its transmission charging methodology.
