Distributed electricity generation is the production of electricity near to the point of use.
It enables smaller-scale, low-carbon sources of power to be harnessed by directly connecting them to the distribution grid without using the transmission system. The Distributed Generation Co-ordination Group (DGCG), a DTI/Ofgem co-chaired industry group, has commissioned IEE Power Systems and Equipment Professional Network to produce a report on the future of our electricity networks.
Scenarios addressing the Government’s Energy White Paper’s renewables targets, as well as the need to re-wire Britain and connect more distributed generation, are discussed in the following document: Technical Architecture - PDF, 1.4MB - opens in a new browser window.
