Ofgem set separate price controls on the gas and electricity metering activities of incumbent network companies in April 2002 and April 2005 respectively.
Following a consultation process in 2006, Ofgem decided to allow the controls on electricity meter operation and the provision of new / replacement electricity meters to expire from 31 March 2007.
Controls on gas metering services will be reviewed once Ofgem concludes its Competition Act investigation into National Grid’s Metering Service Agreements.
