Retail competition

Full competition was introduced in Great Britain from 1999. Since then customers have been able to shop around for their gas and electricity supplier. Ofgem is committed to protecting the needs of customers, where appropriate by promoting effective competition.

This section sets out documents that relate to the operation of competition in the gas and electricity retail markets, including our periodic domestic retail market reports, consultations and investigations into the performance of the markets in meeting consumers’ needs.
