Working to promote competition and efficiency

One of Ofgem’s principle objectives is to promote competition in the wholesale purchase and sale of gas and electricity markets.

Ofgem is responsible for monitoring developments in the gas and electricity markets and facilitating changes to the market arrangements where it is economic and efficient to do so.

We also undertake work to protect customers’ interests in respect of the security of GB electricity and gas supplies as well as monitoring and investigating activities which may harm competition.
