How to apply for accreditation

If you are interested in participating in the RHI, we ask that you read the Guidance document (available below) in the first instance. This Guidance is intended to provide prospective applicants with a comprehensive insight into the eligibility requirements for the scheme, what is required as part of the accreditation process, as well as information about ongoing obligations under the scheme.

Please note that neither this Guidance nor information provided via the enquiry line or email enquiry mailbox are intended to provide comprehensive legal advice on how the Regulations should be interpreted or to themselves have legal effect. At all times, the onus is on the owner of an installation or producer of biomethane to ensure that he or she is aware of and adheres to the requirements of the Regulations. We will provide advice on the eligibility of technologies where we can. However, if a technology is new, developers might find it helpful to seek their own legal and technical advice before approaching us.

An IT User Guide is available to help applicants use the RHI system, and manage any problems you may encounter with the system.

Further Guidance notes and other templates for use at application are also available below.

How to apply

If you would like to make an application to the scheme, you will need to create an account on the RHI system. Please follow the instructions on the page to register for an account. You will be sent an email confirming that your account has been created, and a link that you will need to click on to change your password. After this is complete, you will be able to start to complete your application.

To start the application process, please visit the RHI system.

Accreditation process

Before you start to complete the accreditation process, we would advise you to read the “Summary of supporting information for RHI application” document. This provides you with information about the documentation you are likely to be required to provide as part of your application for accreditation.

Applicants will have to provide a range of information as part of their application, including information specific to your technology and site. The application is quite long – however you can save your application and come back to it later.

Information at application should be accurate to the best of your knowledge. Please see the Fraud and Compliance page for our approach to misconduct under the scheme.

Once you have completed your application and submitted it, providing there is no other information that is required, Ofgem will aim to make a decision as to whether to accredit your installation to the RHI within 4 weeks for a ‘simple’ installation, and within 6 weeks for a ‘complex’ installation. We will send you a letter confirming your acceptance onto the scheme if you are successful, which will also detail any conditions associated with your accreditation and the terms and conditions of participation.
