Ofgem has a number of specific statutory duties under equalities legislation. As part of these duties, we have published our three Equality Schemes which outline what we have done so far, and what we propose to do, to ensure the promotion of equality and diversity at the heart of our work.
Ofgem has a strong commitment to the elimination of discrimination and the promotion of equality and diversity. These principles underpin our work not only as an employer but also in our role as the energy regulator. As well as seeking to foster diversity within the organisation we are working to ensure equality for energy consumers, through our external-facing policy work.
Disability Advisory Forum
As part of our ongoing work to engage with consumer stakeholder groups, Ofgem holds a Disability Advisory Forum with a range of organisations representing the interests of people with disabilities, including:
- Age UK
- Consumer Focus
- Leonard Cheshire Disability
- MIND
- MENCAP
- RNIB
- RNID
The Forum gives us an opportunity to consult on Ofgem’s Disability Equalities Scheme and also provides an open forum for members to raise any other key issues affecting energy customers with disabilities. The Disability Advisory Forum will continue to meet annually.
