Ofgem works to keep the cost of regulation to a minimum.
Ofgem was the first regulator to place itself under the same stringent five year price control that we impose on the network companies we regulate. Our cost control has been set at RPI-3 which pegs our expenditure growth at 3 percentage points below the retail price index. Under this regime we delivered savings of £11.9 million over the period 2005-2010. Our five-year cost control regime that runs 2010-2015 is expected to result in savings of £12.5 million.
Our factsheet 'Delivering efficient regulation for energy consumers' provides more detail on how our cost control regime delivers savings and on our work to deliver Government environmental programmes efficiently.
