Powering the Energy Debate

Powering the Energy Debate: GB’s Security of Supply

On 2nd February 2012, Ofgem held a successful Powering the Energy Debate seminar on GB Gas Security of Supply. Around 150 delegates attended, representing a wide cross-section of organisations and companies from across the GB energy landscape.

Ofgem has been engaging with a range of organisations and individuals as part of its work investigating the risks around medium- to long-term gas security. The seminar presented an opportunity to hear the perspectives from a selection of these. The speakers were Howard Rogers, Oxford Institute of Energy Studies, Anne-Sophie Corbeau, International Energy Agency, Pierre Noël, EPRG University of Cambridge and Lucy Field, Pöyry.

As part of the wider gas security of supply work that Ofgem undertakes, we commissioned an independent report by Pöyry Management Consultants which we are now publishing. It investigates the possible impact of shale gas and other types of unconventional gas on Europe, examining the prospects for their development, both in Europe and elsewhere, and the implications for GB and wider European gas markets.
