Lord Mogg KCMG 

 

Lord Mogg was appointed for a second five year term as the non-executive Chairman of Ofgem (the energy regulator for Great Britain) in October 2008. In the same year he was also elected for a second term as Chairman of the European Regulators Group for Electricity and Gas (ERGEG), and as the President of the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER).


From 1990 to 2003 he worked in the EU Commission, initially for three years as Director General, Industry, and thereafter for nearly a decade as Director General, Internal Market and Financial Services.  His other positions include the Chairmanship of the Governors of the University of Brighton.


Before 1990, Lord Mogg held a number of positions in the British Civil Service including the Deputy Head, European Secretariat in the Cabinet Office; and Principal Private Secretary to three Secretaries of State.  He held other senior posts in the Department of Trade and Industry, having spent 8 years in the private sector after graduating from the University of Birmingham.


Lord Mogg was knighted in 2004 and became a peer in 2008.
